Teeth whitening can be prescribed to be done

• At Home (Tray Whitening)
• In-Office (Barrier Whitening)
• Internal Whitening (For Discoloured Teeth)

A whitening gel is placed in a custom-made tray which you can wear whilst asleep or for short periods during the day. Results are normally seen over 2 weeks.

This method for whitening teeth uses a ‘tray’. First of all, impressions are taken from which a study model is made. This is painted with a special material that increases the thickness of the tooth area.

When the tray is prepared, a small pocket is produced. The whitening solution occupies this pocket ensuring that it only comes into contact with the required surfaces and that no damage is done to the soft gums.

There are many reasons for discoloration. Sometimes this is due to a filling showing through the tooth surface.

First of all the old amalgam filling is removed. The old root treatment is then sealed and the whitening material inserted. A temporary filling is placed and the whitening is given time to occur. The whitening material is then removed and the filling made permanent.
